Which documents do I need to apply?

Your South African ID, recent proof of income and a bank account in your own name. You share them only inside an application service, never on this website.

Before you apply

An ID card, a payslip and a bank statement fanned out

You need three things: your South African ID, recent proof of your income, and the details of a bank account in your own name. You also need your own cellphone number and email address, and an honest idea of what you spend each month.

None of this is entered on this website. You share it only inside an application service, after you have checked its address in your browser bar.

Whose process this is

This page describes RandLeaf’s own application process, for when it opens. Today the Apply online button goes to a partner’s application, which asks for similar details on its own website and under its own rules. Share anything there only after checking the address and the credit provider’s NCR registration. How the partner route works.

What to have ready

South African ID
A smart ID card or a green barcoded ID book. You enter your ID number, and the application service may ask you to confirm your identity with a photo or a check against official records.
Proof of income
Recent payslips, recent bank statements, or both. The application service tells you exactly which months it needs. If your pay goes into your account each month, your statements usually show it.
Bank account in your name
The account your income is paid into. The loan is paid into it, and your repayments are collected from it by DebiCheck debit order.
Contact details
A cellphone number and email address that only you use. Your quote, agreement and statements are sent there.
Monthly expenses
Rent or bond, transport, food, school fees, airtime, money you send to family, and repayments on other credit. A rough list on paper helps.

How to share them safely

  1. Open the application service yourself. Start from our apply page or type the address yourself, never from a link in a message. Check the address in your browser bar before you enter anything.
  2. Follow the steps on that site. Upload documents or connect your bank only where the application service asks for it. It explains what each step is for.
  3. Keep your originals. We never need your physical ID book or card. Keep them with you, and don’t hand them to anyone offering to “apply on your behalf”.

Not by WhatsApp or ordinary email

Please don’t send your ID, payslips or bank statements by WhatsApp, SMS or ordinary email. If our support team ever needs a document from you, they will ask through a verified channel and tell you the secure way to send it.

What we will never ask for

  • Your banking PIN, internet banking password or app password
  • A one-time PIN (OTP) sent to your phone, read out to someone on a call
  • Your card number, the CVV on the back, or a photo of your bank card
  • Money upfront to “release”, “insure” or “process” a loan
  • Payment into a personal bank account

Anyone asking for these is not acting for RandLeaf. How to report it.

If your documents don’t match

Small differences can hold up an application, so it helps to sort them out first.

  • Your surname changed. If your bank account or payslip uses a different surname from your ID, tell us. The application service explains which proof of the change it can accept.
  • You only have a temporary ID certificate. Ask us before you apply whether it can be used.
  • You started a new job recently. You may not have several payslips yet. Your employment letter and latest payslip may help, but the assessment decides.
  • You are paid in cash. If your income doesn’t go through a bank account and you have no payslip, we may not be able to confirm it, and then we can’t lend.
