How a RandLeaf loan works, from estimate to payout

You see the full price before you share any personal details. Applying, the checks and the agreement then happen on our application service.

  • 4 steps
  • Price first
  • No application fee

Four steps from estimate to payout

You see the price at the first step. Personal details are only shared at step three, on the application service, never on this website.

This is RandLeaf’s own process

RandLeaf’s application service isn’t open yet. Until it is, the Apply online button goes to a paid partner route, where the partner’s own steps, checks and terms apply. How the partner route works.

Four steps joined by a stem: estimate, prepare, apply and be assessed, sign and receive the money
Step 1: estimate the cost here. Step 2: get your details ready at home. Step 3: apply on the application service and be assessed. Step 4: accept a written quote and agreement, approve the DebiCheck request, then receive the payout.

What happens at each step

  1. Estimate the cost on this website

Choose a short-term, instalment or personal loan, then an amount and a term. The calculator shows interest, fees, the total and each repayment. For example, R3 000 over 3 months on a first loan comes to R3 370.79: 2 × R1 123.59, then a final R1 123.61. The calculator runs in your browser. What you type is not saved or sent to us.

  2. Get your details ready

Have your South African ID, a recent payslip or bank statement, your banking details and a fair list of your monthly expenses close by. Nothing is uploaded on this site. Which documents and details you’ll need.

  3. Apply and be assessed

You apply on our application service at application address published once verified. We confirm who you are, check that the bank account is yours, look at your credit record and work out whether the repayment fits your budget after expenses and other debt. The answer can be yes, yes for a smaller amount, or no.

  4. Accept the quote and agreement, then get paid

If we can lend, you get a written quote and a credit agreement showing the same kind of breakdown as the calculator, with your real amounts and dates. You then approve a DebiCheck debit order request from your own bank for the repayments. The loan is paid into your verified account after you accept.

Who sees what, and where

Each step happens in a different place. Knowing which one you are on helps you spot a fake site or message.

What can make it take longer

We don’t promise a fixed time from application to payout. It depends on how quickly the checks can be completed and on the banks involved. These are the usual reasons for a delay:

  • Your name, ID number or bank account details don’t match each other
  • The bank account is not in your own name, or it is a business or foreign account
  • A payslip or statement is unclear, cut off or out of date
  • The DebiCheck request is not approved in your banking app, or is declined by mistake
  • Bank processing times, weekends and public holidays

If your application is declined

A decline is not a judgement of you. It usually means the repayment would not fit your budget right now, or something in the checks needs fixing. You can ask for the main reason. What a decline means and what you can do.

This website never asks for your details

If a page, call or message asks for your ID, banking PIN or a one-time PIN in order to “unlock” a RandLeaf loan, it is not us. How to check.

About the process

Do I pay anything to apply?

No. There is no application fee and no paid membership. You only pay the interest and fees in your agreement, through your repayments.

Is the calculator result the price I’ll get?

The rates and fees are the same ones we publish, so the method is the same. Your quote can differ in amount and dates, because it is based on your assessment and the actual payout date. If the quote differs from what you expected, ask us before you accept.

Can I change my mind after I’ve been approved?

You don’t have to accept a quote. If you have already accepted and been paid, you can settle the loan early at any time with no penalty: you pay the balance and the interest and fees up to that day.

Can I have two RandLeaf loans at once?

No. We offer one active loan at a time, with no top-ups and no roll-overs. When a loan is fully repaid you can apply again, and each new application is assessed from scratch.

What does approving the DebiCheck request do?

It confirms the debit order details with your bank: our name, the amount, the date and how often it runs. It is not the payout and it doesn’t add a cost. DebiCheck explained.
